The Delhi Forest Department has informed NGT that the tree officer has directed the MCD to plant 1,000 trees in Paschim Vihar during the upcoming plantation season (Feb to July 2025) after the civic agency excessively pruned the trees in the area.

A resident had filed a plea with the NGT in Sept 2024, claiming that over 250 trees in Paschim Vihar were illegally pruned in February and March 2024.

The forest department, however, informed NGT that while it had granted permission to prune the trees last year, MCD conducted more extensive pruning than authorised.

In a separate report, MCD denied any violations, stating that the pruning was carried out at the request of the RWA and only after receiving the permissions from the forest department.
