TRICHY: To meet the rising demand for industrial land in the Manapparai Sipcot area of Trichy district, the state government has sanctioned Rs 29 crore to enhance infrastructure in the industrial park. This includes constructing new roads with drainage and setting up a water supply network.
As the non-leather footwear sector continues to grow in Perambalur Sipcot, driven by the availability of a large workforce, a new 100-acre industrial park will be developed in Padalur along the Chennai-Trichy highway as an extension facility. In Manapparai, Sipcot management stated that only a portion of the 1,096 acres available along the Trichy-Dindigul national highway was initially developed and marketed.
However, since Jabil, an electronic manufacturing services provider and Apple supplier, announced an investment, interest in Manapparai Sipcot and its dedicated food park has surged. To prepare the remaining areas for industrial use, Rs 29 crore has been sanctioned for Phase II infrastructure development.
Additionally, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board has allocated Rs 49 crore to establish a permanent water supply network, sourcing 7 MLD water from the Cauvery. In the interim, a temporary water supply of 2.5 MLD from TNPL in Manapparai is expected to be operational by Dec 2024.
“Enquiries for Manapparai Sipcot are increasing, especially from engineering and chemical companies. The improved connectivity through Trichy International Airport and recent infrastructure upgrades are also contributing factors,” a senior Sipcot official said.
Meanwhile, the 243-acre footwear hub at Eraiyur Sipcot in Perambalur district has attracted international non-leather footwear companies. In response to the strong investor interest, Sipcot is setting up a new industrial park in Padalur as an extension site for the Eraiyur Sipcot.
The Padalur facility will focus on non-leather footwear manufacturing, creating job opportunities for rural women. The municipal administration department has approved funds to supply 1.6 MLD water from the Kollidam to Padalur for industrial use.
